Blog Entry19.03.1995 (exactly 12 years ago...)Mar 19, '07 9:44 AM
for everyone

As I write this entry, i'm half-smiling and half-melancholic.

Smiling, because 12 years ago, titan and I said our 1st i love yous as boyfriend/girlfriend, we were sooo young then and very adventurous. Melancholic, because, i won't be celebrating this special day with him, he is in Chicago taking one big giant step for our future. Now, not only thinking about our future dates or travels or monthsary gifts to each other but OUR real future life with our Ethan. We have to sacrifice a little and set aside our emotions for awhile, keeping in mind our motto as parents to Ethan: "We gotta do what we gotta do".

My mom was the significant 3rd party in our relationship who would constantly remind us that RESPECT is the biggest factor in any relationship. There was a time in our almost 9 years of being boyfriend and girlfriend that we almost gave up, my mom was there to listen to our woes and talk things out. We did not give up. They say long-distance relationships are impossible, but look at us, here we are taking the last months of our LDR ordeal.

In our 12th year of love and friendship, I'd like to dedicate this special day to my mom, our mediator, our coach and our mrs. love!

~~~Babe, happy happy 144th monthsary, i'd be always supportive and trusting to your decisions as we journey this life together. I love you and i will always be your little yellow curly sue you 1st saw sitting on that wooden chair inside your highschool classroom when we first met on August 27, 1994, during one of the Ateneo's dual encounters. We miss you, hang on there. We're in this together. ~~~
Here's the speech my mom wrote during our wedding in 2003.(Wrote, because she had our emcee, Chinx read it as she was very emotional on that day.)
=====================================================================
To All our Guests and Relatives,
This is a very happy day for us. The old saying is exactly right------we haven't lost a daughter, we gained a son.
And it's a pleasure to welcome you and your family, Titan. As much as you try not to interfere in their lives, you always hope, once your children are grown that they'll make the right choices and that things will go on well for them. So we are delighted Emillie chose someone we like so much to be her partner.
A wedding is a great day for many reasons. It is a party. It is a celebration. And it is an opportunity to say some things you do not find the chance to say every day. I would like to say them today. Emillie and Titan, you are two compassionate and dedicated couple who make life better for every one around you.
There is so much love in this room today. A wedding is not only about love for each other, but the love you share with all the people in your life. You are among friends who wish you all the happiness and love in the world.
Emillie, remember that if you want something from Titan, ask for it outright. Remember, he is a man and hints do not work.Marriage is hard work. It is like an investment account----your return is a function of how much you put into the account. I would suggest that you put in a lot of tolerance----as you will need tolerance as you adjust to each other's habits and idiosyncracies. I would suggest that you put in a lot of love-----for where there is love, nothing is too much trouble and you will always find the time. I would suggest that you put in a lot of communications----as you cannot expect your spouse to know what you are thinking about. I would urge you to always place God in the centre of your family. A wise sage once said," Happy marriage begin when we marry the one we love and they blossom when we love the one we married."
To Titan, she's a woman and she will always change her mind. Her cooking will never be as good as mine, but she’s willing to learn.
Finally, to quote Oscar Wilde," Women are to be loved, not understood."
This is an occasion that feeds our soul and warms our hearts, and so I want to thank you, every one, for being here today, and I hope you have a wonderful time tonight. I know that weddings are always wonderful, but this one is special to us. We are two very happy parents today.
So this is the toast I would like to make to you, Emillie and Titan, " May your love be modern enough to survive the times and old-fashioned enough to last forever"
